What’s better than a day of food, swimming, a parade, fireworks, and hanging with friends?

Looking good while doing all of it.

The 4th of July is coming, do you have your outfit ready?

Perhaps you need some inspiration for what to wear on this high holy American holiday.

I’ve got a few ideas for you. Dress them up or down, plug in your own clothes to these formulas, just find something that you feel good in, and wear it.

What colors should you wear on the 4th of July?

  • You can go in the traditional red, white and blue
  • Pick one of these colors
  • Go with something totally different

There are no rules. Figure out what you’ll be doing that day (event-wise) and build your outfit around that. As long as your outfit feels good to you, there is no way you can go wrong.

If you need some ideas, I’ve got some visuals for inspiration for you below.

Dresses for 4th of July Outfits

Dresses. My favorite 60 second outfit. The 4th of July flavored dresses are so fun. You can’t go wrong with a classic striped white and blue t-shirt dress. It also comes in a midi length. Add white puffy slides, a canvas Mama tote, red acrylic hoops and hit your pool party.

This red gingham checked dress with bubble sleeves is adorable. Add touches of blue with the raffia bag with a detachable navy strap (there are other strap options for this bag) and finish it off with 100% cotton navy blue slides for a full 4th of July look.

Shorts for 4th of July Outfits

White shorts with a red checked shoulder tie top, or rainbow striped blouse. Raffia purse with white bead handle and tan colored wooden heeled sandals and star earrings. Red brass earrings and thong sandals with a strap complete the second 4th of July outfits.

One pair of shorts two ways. These white cargo shorts are a great base for any 4th of July outfit. Paired with the red checked shoulder tie top, raffia purse with a detachable white beaded handle, star earrings, and wooden ankle strap sandals this is a fun look for a BBQ or parade watching.

If wearing red, white and blue isn’t your thing then this rainbow striped blouse is a great option. The hoop earrings are red with brass at the bottom, and I added thong sandals with an ankle strap.

Layers to add when it cools off

If it cools off in the evening, or if you’re in a cooler place all day (hello San Francisco) then these are great layers to add on over your outfit, or wear the entire day. This 100% cotton American flag sweater is patriotic and cute. Throw it on on over your dress, shorts or with jeans. This red, white and blue striped sweatshirt is a great add on, or it can hold it’s own with a pair of shorts or jeans.

No matter what your plans are this 4th of July, hopefully you can find something here that will work for your outing. Or your time at home with family. If none of these hit the mark be sure to check out the post on shorts and summer clothes. These both have some fun options you can wear all summer long.

How ever you spend your holiday, I hope you feel well dressed for it.
