Fall fashion over 50—5 fabulous must haves

This post covers fun fall fashion for women over 50 with ideas for the season.

Wondering what someone over 50 should wear this fall?

Yeah, me too. But when I look at my closet, I have tons of stuff for fall already. Sweaters, jeans, shirts, and layers upon layers of things. I went through it and decided that I did need a few items to round out what I have and to make my fall capsule feel fresh.

I came up with 5 things I’m on the hunt for this fall and I’m sharing them with you. This is a great way to slide into fall (adding a few pieces now)since it’s still warm in a lot of places and you can’t go full fall wardrobe. Then when the temps drop, you won’t be caught flat-footed.

I’m a big fan of classic fashion over 50. But, I do like to stay current. So sometimes adding in pieces that are a little trendy is a fun way to spice up a seasonal capsule. I’ve added a couple of fall fashion trends for 2022 to my list of must-haves. You can click on the photos of the text below for details on any item.

Layering t-shirts

Fall is all about the layers. Cool mornings and evenings warrant an extra piece added to your outfit. So it’s great to have a cute piece that is the foundation of your outfit. If you have to shed the sweater you’re wearing, these layering pieces will assure you still look stylish. You can go neutral or add a striped something if you’re looking for some pattern. Great fall fashion over 50 starts with the basics, then layer up. These are your solid basics.

Wide leg non-jean pants is a great fall fashion over 50 piece

This is such a fun trend and easy to wear. Especially for those who carry their weight above their waist. The full leg balances this body type out, giving you a fullness below the waist and creating that hourglass shape. These look good with sandals or boots and are a fun fall look. You can go for a bold color or a neutral like ivory, black, or khaki.

Please note that cargo pants are their own fall trend, so if you like them grab a pair and start wearing them. The pair below also happen to have side legs, bonus points! I also bought the white cropped wide leg corduroy pants. I love a good corduroy, these look better in person, promise. Size up to get a looser fit.

Chunky sweater in a bold color

Nothing says fall like a good sweater. This season add some bold color to make it unexpected. I did try to find colors other than green, but what can I say it’s big this fall.

Statement dress

I love nothing more than a good dress, but a good statement dress takes things to another level. These printed beauties would look great with a tall or short boot, loafer, tennis shoes, or if it’s still warm enough a sandal. You can layer on a sweater, blazer, or denim jacket when temps begin to dip. I had a really hard time narrowing this down. There are so many cute bold dresses out this season, so go find one you love and go for it.

Loafers are an essential part of fall fashion for women over 50

I need a refresh on my loafer game and any pair of these would do the trick. I love the different colors and rich hues. You could pick a couple of these and have a different look from each.

Set that look like PJs

I know I said 5, but this trend is making me rethink my list of must-haves. Fall fashion over 50 should also be fun. And this trend is just that. It’s so easy to look dressed up, but feel like you’re in your PJs. These are easy to wear, look great on all types of body types as you can get full length, cropped pants, various styles of tops. There is something to flatter any shape in this trend at all different price points.

How can I look stylish over 50?

Well, be sure to follow along here because I talk a lot about how middle-aged women can look their best. Style is a relative topic, so I focus on feeling good in your clothes. Because if you feel good, your attitude reflects it. Once you are confident in your style, you will take bigger risks with your clothes and eventually create your unique style.

If you need more than a few pieces added to your wardrobe, fear not, I’ll do a full fall capsule wardrobe post very soon. In the meantime, be sure to download my capsule wardrobe freebie so you can get going with the things you have in your closet already.

Let me know, what pieces do you need for your fall wardrobe?
