What should I wear for Mother’s Day?

5 fabulous Mother’s Day outfit ideas.

Mother’s Day Outfit ideas inside this post. Check out some fun ways to get dressed when celebrating moms this year.

“Don’t touch anything!!” I yelled.

As one of my twins is sliding her hand along the tile wall in the stall of a public bathroom.

I’m sweating, starving, and have one kid left to get on the potty.

This was me every time I went to a restaurant when my twin girls were little. I’d return to cold food and a warm drink. They’d always need to go just as things were being delivered to the table.

“One day is not enough to celebrate all that moms do,” I said to my husband as he took the last bite of his meal that he’d enjoyed in peace.

My twins are older now, so no more restaurant potty runs for me, but I stand by my statement all those years ago. Mothers do so much that one day doesn’t feel like enough, but it’s all we get so you should go big.

You in? I thought so.

Let’s start with what to wear for your special day.

Outfit ideas for various Mother’s Day celebrations

Whether you are honoring yourself, your mom, grandmother, aunt, a friend who is a mother figure to you this is a day of celebration of all women that give selflessly day in and day out.

There are lots of ways to celebrate Mother’s Day.

  • At home or in restaurant brunch
  • Backyard bbq
  • Luncheon
  • Dinner
  • Wine tasting
  • A day at the beach

The list goes on and on.

No matter what you do to celebrate, you deserve to look and FEEL your best, every day, but especially Mother’s Day. If you’re not a mom, you may still have an event to attend celebrating a mom you love, so you need something to wear, too.

I’ve got a few ideas for easy outfits to wear as you celebrate mothers far and wide. Hopefully, you have some of these elements in your closet to recreate the looks, or you can shop for a piece or two here.

Casual brunch or lunch Mother’s Day outfit

Peachy puff sleeve sweater, pastel floral pants, soft pink cross sandals and big pink earrings with a round straw bag. A classic outfit idea for Mother's Day

Grab a short sleeve sweater, like this puff one in a peachy neutral and pair it with some bold print pants. These floral pants are softened by the color palette. Paired with these cushioned cross sandals, big floral earrings and round raffia bag, this is a sweet a feminine look to celebrate in.

Mother’s Day outfit ideas for a backyard party or BBQ

White jeans are a fresh way to dress down your look for Mother’s Day. Pair these Frame straight leg white jeans with a bold floral top. I chose red from the blouse and used it as an accent color. The woven raffia bag with red piping and red slides tie the outfit together. I topped the whole look off with gold chandelier earrings. If florals aren’t your thing, top these Mother white jeans with a striped blouse in spring neutral colors. Add these inexpensive acrylic palm leaf earrings, a clutch in coordinating colors and brown suede espadrille sandals.

Dressy brunch, lunch or dinner

Ditzy print floral dress with ruffled sleeves, fitted at the waist. Paired with poppy colored heels, natrual colored straw bag and gold drop floral earrings. Makes the perfect mother's day outfit

A dress. It’s the go-to for many celebrations but especially Mother’s Day. This feminine and current ditzy floral patterned dress in a bold color is stunning. Bold colors are having a moment, and so are ditzy prints. This beauty ticks both boxes. You can keep the accessories simple here because the dress says so much. The poppy high heeled sandal is sexy and adds some edge to the frilly frock. A simple gold drop floral earring and natural grass clutch add the final touches.

A day at the beach for a Mother’s Day celebration

Mother's Day outfit idea for a day on the beach. Silky blue dress, orange flip flops, a white straw hat and straw bag with thick orange stripes.

This blue silky dress is the perfect thing to wear for a picnic at the beach to celebrate Mother’s Day. Throw on a big straw hat to protect your skin and add some drama to your outfit. I decided to throw in pops of orange with the flip-flops and beach bag. It’s a cheap and cheerful find from Tar-jay.

Make these your own. Follow the template and shop your closet. Just make sure you feel fabulous in what you have on, because it’s your special day. Tell me in the comments below, what are you be doing to celebrate and what will you be wearing?
